Older Adult & ADHD Support
Over the years I have started working with a large percentage of people who attend college, university and working adults. The number of adults I work with has increased dramatically due to the fact adhd is being recognised within adults who have spent most of their lives struggling, or feeling a failure wondering why they did not fit in socially.
After a diagnosis they are then left struggling with questions or confusion .I began working more with this age group after I received a large number of requests and this has proved very popular. Often it has been having a safe space to talk through their confusion, concern and anxieties. Learning strategies and ways to cope and manage in college/ university or work. Negotiating interactions, understanding RSD ( Rejection sensitive dysphoria) which is when a person feels intense emotional pain related to rejection. This also includes feeling totally overwhelmed and left unable to function and completely drained. They also can interpret comments or remarks as severe criticism and take remarks incredibly personally. Adults also “mask” constantly so by the end of the working day they are emotionally and physically exhausted and even a simple task can become overwhelming in some cases
Anxiety is a major factor for many of the older people whom I work alongside and we also work on strategies to manage their anxiety and self esteem finding coping thoughts and strategies which they can use to help in daily challenges.
